Carnegie Harriers strike Gold at the National Cross Country Relays
Carnegie Harriers have won the Masters title at today’s National Cross Country Relays in Cumbernauld. Congratulations to Andrew Wright, Ian Stewart, Allan Fotheringham and Tommy Lawrence who were all members of the winning team. Full report at the bottom of the page.
Andrew Wright undertook the opening leg of the wet and undulating parkland course covering his 4,000m in a fast 13.52. Ian Stewart clocked an excellent 14.44 on stage two before Allan Fotheringham posted a stage three time of 15.29. Tommy Lawrence ran the anchor leg in a quick 14.29 to bring the Carnegie team home in 13th position overall (58.28) and 1st Masters team.
Carnegie’s Masters ‘B’ Team also performed well finishing 43rd overall and 4th Masters team. Mike Harvey on stage one recorded a time of 15.53, Lewis Lawson timed at 15.25 on stage two, Stevie Ogg was 15.58 on stage three and Steven King ran stage four in 15.56 giving the team a total time of 1.03.12.
The Carnegie Senior ‘A’ team placed 51st overall (1.04.55) with fine efforts from Peter Humphreys (15.56), Calum McGaw (16.23), John Lambie (15.43) and Ian Johnston (16.53). Niall Wilson ran stage one in 17.04 and Paul Arnott covered stage two in 19.17. Stephen Greer completed stage three in 19.21 before John Fulham brought the team home on stage four in 17.55.
Carnegie’s ladies fielded three complete teams with our Master’s team placing a highly creditable 27th overall (55.57) and 4th in the Master’s category. Fabienne Thompson covered the opening stage in 17.57, Gail Murdoch timed at 19.16 and Alison Whyte clocked 18.44.
Our Carnegie senior teams finished 38th (59.25) and 62nd (1.09.40) respectively. Helena Sim ran stage one in 20.03, Linda James also clocked 20.03 on stage two while Grace McKenzie enjoyed an excellent run on the anchor leg bringing the team into 38th position in 19.19. Lee Polson put in a strong performance clocking 19.40 on stage one, Lesley Halstead recorded 23.20 on stage two and Mehrnaz Campbell timed at 26.40 on stage three placing our ladies home in 62nd.
Very well done to all our athletes who took part and to our club captain’s Fabienne Thompson and Ian Johnston for all their hard work organising our teams.

great to read the report, however, any reason why no mention of the 4th mens relay team who worked equally hard and came out to represent our club – well done to Neil, Paul , Steve and John
