The second year of this competition has again proved interesting with the positions in several age groups changing by the event. Unfortunately there have been a number of injuries during the year and that has taken one or three folk out of the frame. Hopefully 2008 will see then returning to competition and challenging again. A reminder of objects of the new competition which were threefold: -

1. Not to have additional events forced on folk to qualify
2. To find the best Age Group All-Rounders in the club
3. To encourage one/two discipline folk to have a go at all the GP disciplines

We have been successful on all counts again: -

1. The Grand Prix Series have continued, but with adjustment of category spread that has not been fully helpful to the competition.
2. Again there was good competition in all categories except M60 where injury took out those in contest, but this will only be a blip for 2007 (I hope!)
3. More people took part this year in the A-RC series with 29 having qualified in 2006 and this year 34 with more new names appearing on the hill scene – and enjoying themselves.

Again there has been keen interest in the competition and new names appearing on the hills. This is one of the objectives of the competition that is proving successful. The plus side of this increase is that they have found they have enjoyed the different terrain and scenery, so hopefully more will pick up the challenge in 2008. If you want advice, or wish to join a training outing, then speak to Ian Johnston (Men’s Captain) or Fabienne Thompson (Ladies Captain). My thanks again to all those who have supported the competition and also for those who have jogged my mind to possible error in the sums. Full tables are on the club website and a copy on the notice board at Academy of Sport. The results are given below and trophies will be presented at the same time as the Cross Country presentations.

The first road GP event of the year now means we have all the GPs started and as a result there are four folk who have counters in each of the Grand Prix. Morna Fleming in W50, Dave McLean and Ryan McKenzie in MS and Alan Cockburn in M40. There are more folk with good counters so far having competed in the early cross-countries so it bodes well for good rivallry in the competition this year.
