Cross Country Grand Prix Sucess for Barry Davie and Fabienne Thompson

Congratulations to Barry Davie and Fabienne Thompson who are our 2010/2011 Cross Country Grand Prix Champions.

The series began back in October at the East District Cross Country League in Stirling. The Grand Prix consisted of seven events with each members best four results to count. As always the series of races was very closely contested and the last event took place on Sunday at the Gartmorn 6 in Sauchie.

Barry Davie in his first winter in Carnegie colours excelled to become the men’s overall winner with 193 points. Peter Humphreys finished 2nd overall on 191 points and Ian Johnston was 3rd male with 188 points. Fabienne Thompson produced another outstanding cross country season to win the ladies title for the third year in succession. Fabienne has won the ladies Cross Country Grand Prix on five occassions and this year scored 199 points. Isobel Burnett also enjoyed a superb season and placed 2nd lady with 198 points. Well done to Gail Murdoch who finished 3rd lady on 193 points.

There was some tremendous competition in the various age-group categories. Congratulations to Malcolm Smith who wins the M40 category on 173 points (6th overall) and to Peter Simpson who is the M50 winner (4th overall) with 187 points. Phil Smithard is the M60 winner (9th overall) on 162 points and Ken Daniels was the leading M70 with 121 points. Linda James wins the F40 award (5th overall) with 188 points and Morna Fleming is the F50 winner (6th overall) with 187 points.

Well done to all 70 club members who took part in the Cross Country Grand Prix and all the final results can be found on the Grand Prix section on this website.

The presentation of awards will take place after club training at Dunfermline Academy of Sport on Tuesday 29th March. A complete list of all award winners will be available soon.

National Cross Country Championships, Falkirk

Saturday 19th February - National Cross Country Championships, Falkirk

Carnegie Harriers were represented by 23 members at Saturday’s National CC Championships which were held in Callendar Park, Falkirk. In form Graeme Campbell was the leading Harrier in the mens 12K race. Graeme covered the challenging three lap course in 44.58, placing 78th. Allan Fotheringham was the next Carnegie runner to finish, crossing the line in 45.53 in 102nd position. Barry Davie clocked 48.37 finishing 165th while Peter Simpson was 202nd in 50.15. Gail Murdoch finished 82nd in the ladies race in 36.01, Isobel Burnett was 95th in 36.27 and Grace MacKenzie placed 103rd in 37.03. After 5 events in our Cross Country Grand Prix, Barry Davie leads the men on 189 points with Ian Johnston currenty 2nd with 183 points. John Fulham is in 3rd position on 173 points. Isobel Burnett leads the ladies on 198 points with Gail Murdoch only one point behind on 197 points in 2nd place. Grace MacKenzie is 3rd on 191 points. The 6th event in our CC Grand Prix is next Saturday at our Festive Forest Run

Loch Fitty Cross Country – Cancellation

Our Loch Fitty Cross Course Race which was scheduled to take place this Sunday has now been cancelled. Ian Johnston has carried out an inspection of the course this afternoon and it is not runnable due to sheet ice.

Lasswade Open Cross Country Meeting 2010

Well Done to all the Harriers and support who turned out for a very muddy race. Over 20% of the runners taking part in the senior mens and ladies races were Carnegie members.

The 2nd event in Carnegie’s Cross Country Grand Prix took place in Gorebridge on Sunday afternoon at the annual Lasswade Open Cross Country Races. The Harriers were represented by 22 men and 7 ladies who all enjoyed the challenge of a very muddy cross country course. Fabienne Thompson was the leading Carnegie lady placing an impressive 8th overall in 27.49 followed by Gail Murdoch who was 13th in 30.55. Grace MacKenzie ran a strong race finishing 16th in 31.38. Carnegie ladies placed 2nd team. Scott Bradley was in fine form in the mens race placing 7th overall in 38.54. Under 20 athlete Andrew Smith was 15th in 40.24 and with Barry Davie placing 21st in 41.14 the Carnegie men finished 4th team overall. Peter Humphreys (24th in 41.28), Ian Johnston (34th in 43.51) and Mike Harvey (35th in 43.59) won the Veteran team award.

The 29th Lasswade Open Cross Country Meeting takes place on Sunday 7th November at Gore Glen Playing Fields, Engine Road, Gorebridge, Midlothian. This is the 2nd counter in our Cross Country Grand Prix. All race entries are on the day at Gorebridge Leisure Centre, Hunterfield Road, Gorebridge. The ladies and U17 men’s race is 3.8 miles and starts at 2pm. The senior men’s race is over 6 miles and starts at 2.30pm. There are seven other races for the younger age groups including the Under 15 boy’s race (3 miles) at 1.10pm and the Under 13 boy’s race (2 miles) at 12.50pm. Well done to all the harriers who made the trip to Cumbernauld for the National Cross Country Relay Championship. The ladies team of Fabienne Thompson, Morna Fleming and Linda James won Bronze for the Female Vet team. The Mens teams came in at 43, 87 and 101

Stirling Cross Country 2010 East District League

The opening race in Carnegie’s Cross Country Grand Prix took place on Saturday afternoon at the East District Cross Country League within the grounds of Stirling University. Twenty one Harriers took part with Scott Bradley placing an impressive 25th overall in the mens race in 30.59. Davie Millar was Carnegie’s second counter covering the firm country course in 36.05 with Ian Johnston a few second behind clocking 36.12. Fabienne Thompson led home the Carnegie ladies, placing 18th overall in 25.06. Isobel Burnett was 23rd in 26.10 and Kirsty Baird finished 27th in 26.39. Carnegie’s ladies placed 6th team overall. All the Carnegie results are now posted on our website and the Grand Prix has been updated.

Busy Weekend for Carnegie Harriers Running Club

Saturday 20th March – Hardmoors 55 Mile Ultra Race, Guisborough

Richie Cunningham commenced his 2010 ultra running season in fine style placing 3rd overall at the Hardmoors 55 Mile Ultra Race from Guisborough on Saturday covering the gruelling distance in 9.14.40.

Saturday 20th March - Edinburgh parkrun 5K, Cramond

At Saturday’s Edinburgh parkrun 5k there were three club members amongst the 171 runners taking part. Robert Milton contesting his 14th parkrun finished 28th in 19.35. Ross Carrie was 42nd in 20.58 and Tom Maley was 154th in 30.18.

Sunday 21st March – Alloa Half Marathon

Excellent Carnegie turnout at the Alloa Half Marathon
Carnegie Harriers were very well represented by 32 club members at Sunday’s Alloa Half Marathon which was run in good conditions on Sunday morning. The event attraced a field of 977 runners with many Harriers recording personal bests. Scott Bradley who had only arrived back from Tokyo a few hours before the race must have still be in flight mode as he flew round the course in an impressive 1.14.31 placing 9th overall. Alloa based member Ian Stewart clocked 1.17.32 finishing 19th overall, leading M50 and 1st local runner while Campbell Hutt recorded a personal best of 1.17.39 in 22nd position. Steven King enjoyed a strong run timing at 1.23.15 (60th). Gail Murdoch was in top form covering the 13.1 mile course in 1.29.45 and placing 1st F40. John Fulham recorded a PB of 1.32.17 (194th), Tom Spry was 2nd M60 in 1.32.44 and Darren Neilson clocked 1.35.51 (266th). London Marathon bound Kirsty Baird ran her debut half marathon in 1.36.05, Malcolm Smith made his debut in 1.36.22, Gordon Rae timed at 1.40.03 and Annette Bunyan clocked 1.40.34.Ken Daniels was the leading M70 in a superb 1.48.48, Louise Dallas timed at 1.54.11 and Mhairi MacKechnie reached the finish in 1.56.45. There were many more good runs and personal best from our members and all the Carnegie results are now posted on the results section of our website and very well done to everyone who took part. The Alloa Half Marathon was also the 2nd counting event in our Road Running Grand Prix and the latest tables have now been updated.

Sunday 21st March – Scottish Junior Road Race Championships, Rouken Glen Park

Calum McGaw represented Carnegie Harriers at Sundays Scottish Junior Road Race Championships which were held at Rouken Glen Park. Calum produced a strong run over the 5k distance in the Under 20 men’s race finishing 17th and leading Fife based athlete in 17.21.

Sunday 21st March – Hastings Half Marathon

Pauline Walker and Tim Walker made their annual journey to the South of England to take part in the Hasting Half Marathon. Pauline covered the challenging course in 1.39.12 and well done to Tim who completed the 13.1 miler in 2.00.05.

Sunday 21st March – Criffel Hill Race

Alison West enjoyed a great run at Sunday’s Criffel Hill Race finishing 2nd lady and 1st F50 in 1.21.04
