Judy Turner completed the Ythan challenge which is a multi-terrain adventure race measuring approximately 11k, which starts and finishes at the Meadows Sports Centre in Ellon, north of Aberdeen. The course takes runners along a largely flat off-road path beside the river Ythan and onto the Esslemont Estate, which is usually closed to the public. Once on the estate, the going gets tougher underfoot and you can expect a few surprises as the course includes a series of obstacles — including the now famous (or possibly infamous!) straw bales, killer hills, cargo nets and some waist deep mud thrown in for good measure. A few runners sacrificed their trainers to the mud in the process! Judy came second female with a time of 56.31. Would be good to get a few more harriers up there next year as it’s fantastic fun and they even put a good BBQ on after.

The 25th anniverary Dunfermline Half Marathon was a huge success and overall the new route has been well received by the several hundred runners taking part. Carnegie’s Simon Plummer who was born in Dunfermline and now lives in Amesbury in Wiltshire flew up from Southampton to take part. Simon had his race number pinned to his Carnegie vest when 45 minutes before the race start he was asked by the Scottish team manager to represent Scotland in the Home International. After a quick change of running vest, Simon certainly managed to do his club and country proud finishing 6th overall in a personal best of 1.08.47.Tommy Lawrence retained the Gary Riddell Trophy for the 6th year in succession finishing 1st local runner and 13th overall in 1.15.02. Allan Fotheringham ran a strong race finishing 15th overall, 2nd local runner and 2nd M40 in the Scottish Championships in 1.17.51. Iain Taylor also enjoyed a good run covering the testing 13.1 mile course in 1.18.29 placing 19th overall and 3rd local runner.
Sunday 13th June – Dunfermline Half Marathon

The 25th anniverary Dunfermline Half Marathon was a huge success and overall the new route has been well received by the several hundred runners taking part. The cool temperatures and light rain made conditions near perfect for distance running and Carnegie members were out in force to support the event. The race incorporated the Scottish Half Marathon Championships and a Home International Challenge which brought many of the UK’s leading distance runners to the event. Our Carnegie men (Simon Plummer, Tommy Lawrence and Allan Fotheringham) won team silver in the Scottish Championships behind Shettleston Harriers. In the ladies race, Carnegie’s Siobhan Culleton recorded a personal best of 1.27.01 finishing 12th lady overall and 1st local runner. Kristin Lownie reached the finish in Pittencrieff Park in 1.27.17 (13th lady overall) placing 2nd local lady and Isobel Burnett won the Scottish Championship F50 award finishing the 3rd Carnegie lady in 1.36.03. Carnegie ladies also enjoyed team success finishing 2nd club overall in the Scottish Championships.

There was a superb turnout of 43 Carnegie members with many excellent performances throughout the field with several personal bests recorded. Campbell Hutt clocked an impressive 1.18.51 placing 22nd and Kevin Mathie was 31st in 1.22.43. Nineteen year old Andrew Smith recorded a personal best of 1.23.41 (41st) and Tom Spry was the 2nd placed M60 timing at 1.33.38. Ross Carrie set a personal best of 1.33.45 finishing 108th, while new members Mark Western (1.39.09), Jacqueline MacIntyre (1.39.18 PB), Alan Dow (1.39.52, PB), Mary Western (1.44.12) and Craig Lindsay (1.55.40, PB) all enjoyed great runs.

Thanks also to all our Carnegie members who assisted with marshalling and providing encouragement around the route. There were 677 finishers in the race.
