Congratulations to our men’s team who won Gold medals by placing 1st Masters (aged 35 and over) team at Saturday’s East District Cross Country Championships in Livingston. Carnegie’s winning team featured Andrew Wright who finished 29th overall and 2nd M35 in 35.08, Tommy Lawrence who was 42nd overall and 5th M35 in 35.56 and Ian Stewart who was 43rd and leading M50 in 35.59. This superb result completes an excellent year for our men who also won the Scottish Veteran Harriers Road Relay and Scottish National Cross Country Relay Masters titles earlier this year. Carnegie fielded 25 men and 11 ladies in the senior events at the East District Championships which were held in Livingston and Sandy MacDonald represented our club in the Under 13 boys race where he placed 38th in 15.44. The senior men’s race involves three laps of a soft underfoot course over grassland and woodland trails. Andy Symonds enjoyed a very strong run placing 9th overall in the field of 231 athletes covering the six mile course in 33.36. Andy was then followed home by Andrew Wright (29th in 35.08), Tommy Lawrence (42nd in 35.56), Ian Stewart (43rd in 35.59), Lewis Lawson (57th in 37.10) and Allan Fotheringham (61st in 37.15) and our men’s senior team with six to count finished 5th overall with 241 points. Fabienne Thompson was our leading lady covering her two laps (4 miles) in 28.16 placing 32nd overall. Isobel Burnett’s excellent form continued as she finished 28th and 2nd F50 in 28.30. Kirsty Baird clocked 29.21 (51st) and Gail Murdoch was 59th in 30.12 and our Carnegie ladies placed 7th team overall. Well done to everyone who took part and all the results have now been posted along with the Cross Country Grand Prix being updated.

A great turn out today for the East District League Dunfermline cross country 2009 at Queen Anne High school. It was muddy and we underfoot with a real cross country atmosphere today.

The opening event in the East District Cross Country League took place at Stirling University on Saturday. There was a excellent turnout from our club with ten ladies taking part which was the largest representation from any club in the ladies race. Kirsty Baird was our leading lady placing 25th (25.10) backed up by Alison Whyte (31st in 25.59) and Grace McKenzie (38th in 27.24) to complete Carnegie’s scoring team who placed 7th club overall with 94 points. John Lambie was to the fore for Carnegie in the men’s race placing 63rd overall in 33.01. Ian Johnston placed 78th in 34.05 and Peter Simpson was 84th in 34.19. Carnegie’s masters team finished 6th club on 225 points. In the Under 13 Boy’s race, Gregor Campbell flew the Carnegie flag placing 40th in 12.34. The complete set of results can be found HERE. Well done to all 22 Harriers who took part and the Hill Running Grand Prix table has been updated after this opening event. The 2nd event in the East District Cross Country League takes place on Sunday 22nd November from Queen Anne High School, Dunfermline.

Harriers on form at the Donkey Brae Race in Aberdour
There was an excellent turnout of twenty two Carnegie runners at the 7 mile Donkey Brae Race on Sunday afternoon. The weather was warm but breezy as the field of 271 runners tackled the undulating course to Dalgety Bay and back.Ian Stewart was the first Harrier to reach the finish at Aberdour’s Silver Sands placing 3rd overall in 40.07. Kevin Mathie in 43.30 (10th overall) was the 2nd Carnegie runner to finish with Sid James also placing well finishing 11th in 43.36. Iain Taylor showed a glimpse of a return to form placing 20th in 45.59 and Alan Cockburn had a strong run finishing 24th in 46.54.
