Carnegie win silver at the Masters CC Championships
The annual Scottish National Masters Cross Country Championships took place in Forres on Saturday afternoon with eight Carnegie members taking part. Our men put in a tremendous team performance winning the silver medals finishing behind a very strong team from Ron Hill Cambuslang with the local club Forres Harriers in the bronze medal position. Tommy Lawrence was in top form over the six mile course placing an excellent 6th overall (3rd M35) in 34.19. Ian Stewart finished a superb 10th and 2nd M50 in 34.54, Allan Fotheringham was 15th in 35.28 and Lewis Lawson was 18th in 35.43 to secure the silver medals for our club. Steven King enjoyed a strong run placing 38th in 38.12, Peter Simpson was 50th in 39.06 and Stephen Greer finished 86th in 44.15. In the ladies race, Fabienne Thompson put in an excellent run finishing 13th overall in 25.31.

An excellent team performance saw Carnegie Harriers successfully retain their Scottish Veteran Harriers Road Relay title at Strathclyde Park near Motherwell. Lewis Lawson covered the opening 3.67 mile leg for the ‘A’ team in 20.28 placing 4th. Scottish veteran internationlist Ian Stewart produced a very strong run to bring Carnegie into the lead at halfway clocking 19.55 on Leg 2. Tommy Lawrence covered the penultimate leg in a fast 19.28 and Andrew Wright ensured team success for Carnegie clocking 18.43 bringing the Harriers home in first position. Carnegie’s ‘B’ team were also in great form placing 4th overall. Allan Fotheringham had an outstanding run on leg one timing at 19.59 in 3rd position before Iain Taylor clocked 20.33 keeping the ‘B’ team in 3rd place at halfway. Stevie Ogg covered leg three in 21.15 (3rd) and John Lambie clocked 20.49 as the team placed 4th overall. Steven King showed no adverse effects from Saturday’s Devils Burden Hill Relay as he covered leg one for the ‘C’ team in 21.26 placing 8th. Peter Morrison clocked 25.49 on leg two (18th), Malcolm Smith timed at 25.09 (17th) on leg three and Mark Johnstone covered leg four in 25.37. An incomplete Carnegie ‘D’ team saw Ian Johnston record 22.25 on leg one and John Fulham clocked 23.59 on leg two. Carnegie ladies finished 10th club overall with Gail Murdoch placing 5th (23.56) on leg one. Lesley Halstead covered leg two in 28.43 (9th) and Maryann Lawrence clocked 28.54 on leg three ensuring a top ten finish for our ladies. Carnegie Harriers brave the icy conditions in Broxburn
The 3rd and final cross country race in the 2009/2010 East District League took place on a very cold afternoon in Broxburn. Nineteen Carnegie members took part with valuable Cross Country Grand Prix points at stake.

EAST DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE – THIS SATURDAY
The 3rd of three events in the East District Cross Country League takes place from Broxburn Academy this Saturday (16th January). The ladies and Under 17 men’s race is approx. 6km and starts at 1.55pm and the men’s race over approx. 9km is at 2.30pm. All Carnegie Runners will wear race number ‘28′ (28L for ladies, 28V for Male 40’s) and these numbers will be handed out of the day by our club captains or alternatively you can collect our number at club training. This race is also a counter in our Cross Country Grand Prix. Details of car sharing will be placed on the club forum.
