Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships

The Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships are being held in Keswick between 17th – 20th September 2009. The Championships will see athletes from the Commonwealth nations competing in three separate disciplines; mountain races, a 100km road race and a 24-hour race.

Wednesday 9th September - Self Transcendence 2 Mile Road Race, Meadows, Edinburgh
Two mile PB’s for Kieran Morgan and Paul Arnott
Well done to Kieran Morgan and Paul Arnott who both recorded personal bests on Wednesday evening at the Self Transcendence 2 Mile Road Race in the Meadows, Edinburgh. Kieran removed a whole minute from his previous best covering the two lap course in 12.37 placing 37th overall. Paul broke the 13 minute barrier for the first time placing 44th in 12.59.
Saturday 12th September – Calderglen Harriers 10 Mile Road Race, East Kilbride
Frazer Munro was the sole Carnegie runner at Saturday Calderglen Harriers Ten Mile Road Race from East Kilbride. His result will be posted on the website once known.
Sunday 13th September – Around Cumbrae 10 Mile Road Race, Millport, Isle of Cumbrae
Tommy Lawrence was the leading Carnegie runner at the Around Cumbrae 10 Mile Road Race covering the fast and flat course in 58.19 placing 5th overall.  Ian Johnston in 17th position ran a strong race reaching the finish in Millport in 1.03.07.  Iain Taylor clocked 1.03.40 placing 20th and Alan Cockburn finished 29th in 1.07.50.  Congratulations to Phil Smithard who won the M60 placing 47th overall in 1.11.57 and to Isobel Burnett who placed 3rd lady overall in 1.11.59.  Helena Sim placed 9th lady in 1.18.07 and Morna Fleming won the F55 award timing at 1.19.59.  Carnegie’s men finished 4th team and our ladies were 2nd team overall.
Sunday 13th September – Moray Marathon
Well done to Bernt Cederstrom placed 54th at the Moray Marathon clocking a time of 3.35.45 and Susan Cederstrom placed 86th overall in 3.51.42.
Sunday 13th September – Hawick Half Marathon
Congratulations to Campbell Hutt who won Sunday’s Hawick Half Marathon covering the undulating course in 1.19.28.  Debbie Jackson finished in 2.05.50.

John Fulham Loch Ness Marathon adventure

I am running the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon 2009 on 04/10/2009

To all of you who helped with my fund raising during my Edinburgh Marathon campaign,a big thank – you. My journey continues to raise awareness across Scotland of prostate cancer. Together with your help we can continue their vital support.
I discovered during my Edinburgh marathon training that 3 of my immediate family had suffered from Prostate cancer and currently know of some friends with similar issues.

Race Roundup

Last Tuesday evening four Carnegie runners took part in the Ravenscraig Park 2 Mile Race in Kirkcaldy. Iain Taylor ran well finishing 3rd overall (1st M40) in 11.41 and Robert Milton was 5th (2nd M40) in 11.59. Paul Arnott completed the two lap race in 13.02 placing 10th and Gillian McCracken won the 2nd F35 award running a personal best of 15.11. Pheonix Long-O Race in the Southern Cheviots

Orienteering success in the Cheviots for Phil Smithard

represented Carnegie Harriers in the two day Pheonix Long-O Race in the Southern Cheviots. Running in the C Class, Phil enjoyed a highly successful weekend winning his class in a cumulative time of 4 hrs 56 mins 47 secs. On day one, Phil finished 4th covering the 14.9k race (800m climb) in 2.39.56. Day two involved a 600m climb around the 11.9k course and Phil finished first in 2.16.51.
