Saturday 5th March – Edinburgh parkrun 5K

Mark Western ran a personal best of 20.19 at Saturday’s Edinburgh parkrun 5K placing 42nd overall. Grace MacKenzie also set a PB of 20.32 finishing 48th overall.

Sunday 6th March – Bishop Hill Race

The Bishop Hill race at Scotlandwell was the venue for the 2nd Carnegie Harriers Hill GP event. An excellent turn out of 19 Harriers took part in this well supported event with 100 runners participating in total. Conditions were perfect for running with conditions dry underfoot and still, cool overhead. This led to course records for race winners Robbie Simpson and Clare Whitehead. First Carnegie runner was Pete Simpson who finished 15th in 20.50. Sandy Bennet continued his recovery from injury by finishing closely behind Pete in 16th position in 21.00. Alison West also made a welcome return after injury finishing 1st FV50 in 28.05 whileTom Bowie was 1st V60 in 26.42. There many other impressive runs notably David Greigwho was 41st in 24.18 and Neil Campbell who notched up another PB to finish 42nd in 24.32.

Sunday 6th March – Arbroath Smokies 10 Mile Road Race Race report courtesy of Morna Fleming.

Carnegie ladies did the club proud at Sunday’s running of the Smokies 10 Mile Road Racefrom Arbroath. This is always a tough race this early in the season, when most runners have been concentrating on the shorter cross-country distances, but it’s a very good sharpener for the start of the road racing season. The weather was dull and cold with a pretty biting west wind when the race set off, but the sun did threaten to break through on occasions and there were some rays shining on the Tay when the racers were directed to look over to ‘the silvery Tay and the county of Fife’ at the highest point of the course. Gail Murdoch, Isobel Burnettand Pauline Walker set off at a terrific lick, and Gail was in the lead early on, but settled for 4th place finally winning the F45 shield. Isobel took the F50 trophy, and Morna Fleming, trailing some way behind Pauline to come in as 4th Carnegie lady, won the F55 shield. Gail, Isobel and Pauline took the team cup, which Carnegie have now retained for three years.

Sunday 6th March – Lasswade 10 Mile Road Race

Frazer Munro set a personal best of 1.04.57 whilst finishing 51st at the Lasswade 10 Mile Road Race. Catriona McCracken enjoyed a strong run placing 157th in 1.13.08.

The Two Inns Hill Race is a new race and was run for the first time this year. It is a great race and the money raised goes to the two local mountain rescue teams. It is a straight line race from Creagan to Glen Coe. It is 15 miles long and just over 5000 ft of climbing. Two of the hardcore Hillbillies, Alison “The Vest” West and Neil “The Shorts” Campbell, made the trip to Creagan for the race. Neil finished in just under 4 hours and Alison won the F50 prize.
