Harriers in action at the 53 mile Highland Fling
Several members of Carnegie Harriers took part in Saturday’s Highland Fling Race which covers an incredibly challenging 53 miles along the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Tyndrum. Peter Humphreys was the leading Carnegie athlete placing an excellent 22nd overall in 9.38.58. David Greig was the next Harrier home clocking 10.26.15 (65th) followed by Andy Sim who timed at 10.38.44. Carnegie’s men finished 4th team overall. Gail Murdoch reached the finish in Tyndrum in 10.50.58 (92nd), Fabienne Thompson was 122nd in 11.21.01 and Helena Sim finished 134th in 11.28.44. Carnegie’s ladies finished 3rd ladies team overall. Neil Campbell finished 224th in 13.29.35.

Saturday 27th March - Edinburgh parkrun 5K, Cramond 218 runners complete the 23rd Edinburgh parkrun
Nine members of Carnegie Harriers were amongst a huge field of 218 runners taking part in Saturday’s Edinburgh parkrun along Silverknowes Promenade. The sun was shining but a strong headwind on the return section of the out and back 5k course put a halt to fast times being recorded this week. Iain Taylor contesting his 14th parkrun finished 3rd overall in 17.27 followed home by 9th placed Ian Johnston (18.49) and 25th placed Ross Carrie (19.54). Isobel Burnett in her 2nd parkrun finished 10th lady (1st F50) and 50th overall in 21.34. Gordon Somerville timed at 22.16 (63rd), Paul Arnott clocked 22.31 (68th) while Val Macaulay ran her parkrun best to date finishing in 26.10 (127th) with Pauline Walker doing pacemaking duties and finishing 128th in 26.11. Tom Maley on his 8th visit to the Edinburgh parkrun placed 194th in 32.47.

Saturday 6th March – Birnam Hill Classic, Dunkeld On Saturday at the Birnam Hill Classic from Dunkeld, Fabienne was 4th lady in 43.49 and Alison West was the leading F50.

The opening event in our Road Running Grand Prix took place on Saturday afternoon at the popular Cupar 5. There was a huge field of around 250 runners and with Cupar escaping the snow a great race was enjoyed by all. Allan Fotheringham was the leading Carnegie athlete placing 8th overall and 1st M40 in 27.39. Ian Johnston broke the 30 minute barrier cloking a time of 29.50, John Fulham ran a PB of 32.03, Robert Milton timed at 32.22 and Kieran Morgan ran a personal best of 34.09.
