A very well done to Phil Smithard and all his team of volunteers who set up and marshalled Sunday’s East District Cross Country League event from Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline. The recent wet weather made the course exceptionally challenging with muddy conditions underfoot for the majority of the course. The proceedings got underway at 1pm with the Under 11 Boy’s and Girls races around a 1.6km course. At 1.15pm the Under 13 Boy’s and Girls tackled a 3k course before the Under 15 Boys / Girls and Under 17 ladies at 1.35pm over 4.2k. At 1.55pm the Senior ladies and Under 17 men’s race covered a 6k course before the Senior men’s race took place at 2.30pm over 8.6k. All the races were excellent to watch and attracted a good number of competitors.
Carnegie Harriers had an army of helpers around the course acting as marshals and providing vocal support to all the runners. In the Under 17 boy’s race Callan Francis took part in his first ever cross country race where he finished strongly in a talented field. Fabienne Thompson was the leading Carnegie lady followed by Gail Murdoch and Susan Cederstrom. In the men’s race, Kevin Mathie enjoyed a strong run to finish the leading Harrier followed by Stevie Ogg, Ian Johnston and Peter Simpson.A selection of race photo’s courtesy of Stephanie Lyall can be found HERE and the complete set of results will be posted HERE shortly.
Course director Phil Smithard would like to say a BIG THANKS to all those who helped with the event on Sunday, regardless of what they did or how much they did. It was a total team effort and without it the event would not have happen. Set-up, marshalling, signage, equipment, liaisons – it all completes the jigsaw and hopefully it also helps those who actually take part in the races on the day as they are encouraged all round the course. Thanks also to Queen Anne High School for all their help of course and to the three landowners, I H Brown, Glendale and MR G Hardy for allowing the use of their land.
