Carnegie’s ultra girls win Gold, Silver and Bronze at the Scottish 24 Hour Road Race Championships
Pauline Walker, Lynne Kuz and Fiona Rennie have just achieved one of the finest results ever in Carnegie’s club history. Our ladies have just won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the Scottish 24 Hour Road Race Championships which began at 10am on Saturday morning and formed part of the Perth Ultra Festival of Running. The incredible race which involves covering the greatest distance possible in 24 hours finished at 10am on Sunday morning and our Carnegie trio performed incredibly well as follows;

Pauline Walker who has already set two Scottish records for 24 hour running re-wrote the record books once again covering a huge distance of 130.345 miles to win the Gold medal, placing 1st lady and 2nd overall. It has been confirmed on the SAL site that Pauline has also set Scottish records for 100 miles (17.12.22) and 200km (22.48.28) en-route to her Scottish 24 hour title. Pauline’s previous 24 hour best was set in September 2006 when she covered 128 miles finishing 5th lady in the European 24 hour Championships in Verona, Italy.
Making her debut at 24 hour racing Lynne Kuz put in a simply stunning performance covering an amazing 125.313 miles to finish 2nd lady and 4th overall. Lynne who recently placed 2nd lady at 95 mile West Highland Way covered almost 85 laps of the 2.38km circuit in North Inch in Perth winning the Scottish Championship Silver medal for her phenomenal run.
Fiona Rennie made her 24 hour racing debut at the weekend covering a distance of 116.476 miles to finish 3rd lady (6th overall) winning the Bronze championship medal. To put into context the distance run it is 111 miles from Dunfermline to Aviemore!
As a result of their magnifient runs, all three Carnegie girls have now acheived the Commonwealth Guideline Qualifying Standard for the inaugural Commonwealth Ultra Championships which will be held in The Lake District next Autumn. A very well done to Pauline, Lynne and Fiona on their achievements.
A special thanks also to all the Carnegie members who provided support and encouragement to our ultra runners in all the events over the weekend. Credit also to Scottishathletics, Adrian Stott and his team for organising such a tremendous event.
