East Neuk 10K Road Race, Anstruther
Judy Turner wins the ladies race at the East Neuk 10K
Anster Haddies hosted the 16th East Neuk 10K Race on Sunday morning over a windswept out and back course in Anstruther. The event attracted a large field of 255 runners with an excellent turnout of 26 Carnegie Harriers taking part.
The strong headwind that the athletes faced over the opening 5k didn’t seem to affect Judy Turner who enjoyed a very strong run winning the ladies race in 39.45. Isobel Burnett was the next Carnegie lady to finish clocking a time of 42.12 (2nd F45) followed by Morna Fleming who ran her fastest ever East Neuk 10K timing at 46.48. Well done to Judy, Isobel and Morna who also won the ladies team award.
In the men’s race, Tommy Lawrence was the leading Harrier placing 4th overall in a fast 34.46 while Ian Stewart clocked 35.32 in 6th position (2nd M50). Roger Clark had a strong run finishing 8th in a time of 36.14 and Carnegie’s men won the team award. Campbell Hutt had a solid run covering the 6.2 mile course in 36.36 (9th overall), Iain Taylor placed 2nd M40 in 37.20 (14th overall) and Nick Weir won the 3rd M40 award in 38.28 (19th overall).
Several Harriers were using the 10K as part of their final preparations for the Loch Ness Marathon including Lesley Halstead who was rewarded with a personal best of 49.20 and John Fulham who crossed the finishing line at Waid Academy in 41.48.
Many thanks to Anster Haddies for organising a superb event and providing an excellent post race buffet for all the hungry runners.
