Simon Plummer in top form at the Forth Bridge 10K

Forth Bridge 10k Start
Carnegie Harriers were represented by an amazing 55 club members at Sunday’s Forth Bridge Pitreavie 10K which as always was superbly organised by Pitreavie AAC. Conditions were warm for the field of 322 runners but with virtually no wind it made for fast times over the scenic 6.2 mile course. Carnegie’s Simon Plummer posted a very fast time of 31.16 to secure his 2nd Forth Bridge 10K title having won the race back in 2007. Simon who led from the start at North Queensferry Community Centre passed through 5K in 15.05 and will represent Scotland next Saturday in a ten mile race in Dublin. Andy Symonds who is in the midst of intensive training for the Trans-Alpine Race made a rare appearance on the roads. Andy was rewarded with a superb run placing 3rd overall in 32.31. Tommy Lawrence enjoyed a strong 10K clocking 33.51 finishing 9th overall and 2nd M40. Carnegie won the men’s team award on 13 points with Corstorphine AAC placing 2nd team on 15 points.

Kirsty Bairdreached the finish at the Queensferry Hotel in 44.51 (9th lady) and Kate McKinnon made a welcome return to road racing placing 11th lady in 45.35. Grace MacKenzie recorded a time of 46.57 (121st) while Melanie Sinclair set a PB of 48.08 and Ronnie Hunter-Blair was 141st in 48.23. Ken Daniels was one of the leading M70 runners clocking a time of 50.37, Clive Cable finished in 51.33 and Vivienne Ogg ran her fastest 10K for several years timing at 53.43. Very well done to everyone who took part and to race director Barry Davie and his team for organising such a tremendous event.
