Pitreavie’s Scottish internationlist John Newsom was the convincing winner of the one miler at the Friday Evening Race Series held over a hilly course in Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline. John clocked 4.38 to finish eight seconds clear of Fife AC’s Paul Roarty who was 2nd in 4.46 and the host club’s Tommy Lawrence who placed 3rd in 4.48. Former Friday evening mile race winner Lewis Millar (Central AC) finished 4th in 4.57 with Carnegie’s Mike Harvey 5th and 1st M40 in 5.05. Pitreavie junior Katherine Pennel excelled to win the ladies race in a fast 5.45 ahead of Carnegie’s Kate McKinnon (5.58) and Central AC’s Fiona Kelsall who was 3rd and first F35 in 6.23. Morna Fleming placed 1st F45 in 7.50 while Pitreavie’s George Hunter won the M50 award in a time of 6.03.
The Friday Evening Race Series one miler also incorporated Event No.5 in the Carnegie Harriers Road Running Grand Prix with 22 club members taking part. Colin Reynolds is the new men’s leader with 175 points with Sid James moving into 2nd place on 162 points. Duncan McGougan who did not contest tonight’s event is now in 3rd poistion on 146 points and Mick Cowie is the leading M50 on 125 points. Linda James remains in pole position in the ladies section with a superb 234 points with Kate McKinnon 2nd on 200 points and Gail Murdoch 3rd on 145 points. The 6th counting event is on Sunday 27th May at the Dunfermline Half Marathon.
