Weekly Buletin
Good Morning, While Iain’s computer is away I will be posting what I recieve once a week on this blog so If you have any stories or news and especially photos please let me know and I will post them. Here is a selection of what has been in the mailbag this week.
Tommy Lawrence http://www.thomaslawrence.eu/ is running two classes this Friday at 5.30pm and 6.45
Colin Reynolds was the sole Carnegie Harrier at the Devil’s Beeftub Race on Saturday. He finished 56 out of 86 with a time of 29m28 secs. The race was run in perfect conditions with Brian Marshal(HELP) setting a new course record.
Kev Mitchel did the 3rd race in the Scottish Adventure Racing ‘Wan Dae’ series in the Pentlands, we did 30mins Kayak, 1hr 45 mins hill run and 2 hours 45 mins mountain bike. We came 3rd were well surprised and totally knackered.
Mounia Aboulahcen (Morrocan born, Belgian 10K Champion, based in Brussels and Carnegie Member) competed last week in the International Uitslag Tilburg Ladies 10k, Holland. She finished 8th overall (out of 703 runners) in 34:31, just behind Telga Loroupe, Kenya (34:27). The race was won by Belaynesh Fikadu (31:56) of Ethiopia.
A different league of what we’re used to!
the East District Cross Country Relays Championships, on Saturday 13 October, at Duloch Park , Dunfermline.
Carnegie Harriers is hosting this event which gives us an obvious reason for the need of a strong show of fluorescent Green & Orange vests on the start line, regardless of experience and ability. Just by running on the day you are saying that you proudly support this prestigious event.
We are hoping to bring as many teams of 3 ladies as possible. We had four full teams last year and there is no reason why we cannot repeat this great show. With around 50 ladies presently registered at the Club, we have a potential for 16 teams! Allowing for the pregnant and genuinely injured, half of that would be totally realistic.
Each of the 3 ladies in a team runs 4K. The course is the same as last year, with a marginal change. Start time will soon be confirmed.
Obviously we will endeavour to put stronger and experienced runners in the strongest team (which will not necessarilly be called the A team) in order to maximise chances of winning, but early commitment should see you in a more “solid” team than if you make up your mind at the last minute (which usually creates extra hassle to everyone).
If you have no experience of cross-country, you do not need to worry. Every year, there are novice ladies of all ages, trying cross-country for the first time…and you see them come back! Ask Morna, Laura S and Mehrnaz! There are also opportunities for you to familarise yourself with the actual course. If you still have an excuse for not taking part, then I pass you onto Phil SMITHARD, who will give you a job on the day (here again, early commitment is appreciated by contacting phil.smithard@virgin.net
So make this one the celebration of your strong commitment to welcome the Cross country season (you will be collecting Grand Prix Points throughout the season, both as a Cross Country Runner and as an All Rounder)…or just take part in that event because it is in Dunfermline and you’ll be in and out in no time.
