West Highland Way Race 2009
Training and Inspiration evening
An informal evening for runners /friends/support crews training for this Epic Scottish race but also incredibly useful for runners training or thinking of training for other ultra events like the Highland fling;Devil O’the Highlands etc.

Tips /anecdotes /priceless information from a variety of experienced
West Highland Way Race regulars Including.
“DARIO the GREAT”… Race director ,will talk briefly about the race and explain why back up crews and their motor homes shouldn’t park on the grass of the Kingshouse Hotel amongst other things.
MURDO McEWAN 6 time finisher (And getting faster) will talk about
“Overcoming vissicitudes during the race ..with real life examples!!)
IAIN BEATTIE 7 time finisher (And 1 DNF) will offer wisdom on not only his 7 finishes but “lessons learned from a year of failure”
PAULINE WALKER (7 finishes and also Scottish 100mile and 24 hour record holder and GB international!) will with help from twin sister FIONA RENNIE(Several finishes herself and much help as Paulines support crew)
Will blether on how they got involved in the event ..how they trained for the first time and how their training and support has evolved over the years.
DR CHRIS ELLIS.(GP at Kinlochleven).race doctor will give a revealing Power point presentation on medical/scientific aspects of training for this and other ultras together with revealing results /conclusions of his weight loss study of runners in last years race
N.B as a result of Chris’s involvement with the race he has struck up a Rapport with Tim Noakes (He Of Lore of Running Fame) Possibly the worlds leading leading authority on sports physiology and is going out to South Africa in april to work with Tim during the Two oceans ultra race.

Adrian Stott will try and co-ordinate proceedings with spontaneous contributions from himself and other experienced runners there on the night.

The St brides Centre(EH11 2DY for sat navs) is close to Run and Become off DalryRoad
There is off street and on street parking after 6.30pm but please make
sure you are parked legally and not in a residents permit bay. Sommerfield
supermarket (1-2mins walk) has its own car park which many R and B
customers use discreetly!! in the evening it should not be too busy anyway
