Saturday 26th April – Highland Fling 53 Mile Race, Milngavie to Tyndrum
Carnegie’s ultra runners excel at The Highland Fling
A record 104 athletes completed Saturday’s 53 mile Highland Fling Race which is set amongst some of Scotland’s greatest scenery from Milngavie to Tyndrum.
Richie Cunningham had an exceptional performance finishing 4th overall in 8 hrs 23 mins 38 secs which was an improvement of 19 minutes from his 2007 time.
Very well done to Gail Murdoch who made her debut in this event reaching the finish in Tyndrum in 10 hrs 10 mins 54 secs to place 2nd lady and 25th overall. Lynne Kuz also put in a superb run placing 27th overall and 3rd lady in 10 hrs 21 mins 54 secs.
All three runners will have it all to do again in a few weeks time in the West Highland Way Race but when they reach Tyndrum they will still have another 42 miles to go!!
The Highland Fling was won by Jez Bragg in a new course record of 7.24.50 and the ladies race was won by Lucy Colquhoun in a new record of 8.10.03.
